I am 58 years old. I live in Reisterstown and I started taking the Yin Yoga classes on January 6, 2011. I was diagnosed in December, 2009 with a condition called Psoriatic Athritis - a debilitating condition that can attack all the joints in the body. My friend saw a show on MPT in December on ‘Yoga for Arthritis’, and immediately called me. I was not receptive to the idea at first, but my friend was very persistent that this is something I must do and she was going to do it with me. A new class, Yin Yoga, was starting January 6, 2011 at Mindful Freedom Yoga Studio, and we attended! Yin Yoga ended up being the best thing I could have ever done for my health. There are some positions during class that I just can not do because of the left knee joint, but when that happens the Owner/Instructor- Jennifer Heinstadt, shows me a gentler way of doing the positions so I still get the same benefits.
I feel so much better after a YIN YOGA class! My condition attacks my joints and Yin Yoga has been very helpful in alleviating the pain in my joints.
Having tried several different Yoga teachers, I finally found a wonderful fit..Jenn is very compassionate. She is very tuned into her students and seems to tailor the poses to fit each person. She is extremely knowledgeable about Human anatomy and alignment . You are sure to get a good workout and feel totally relaxed after leaving her Yoga class.
Hi my name is Carol,
I listen to WBAL while I am at work. They had a small segment on arthritis. The person giving the interview said yoga helps arthritis. I had been told my back was full of arthritis; I didn’t want pain meds so this ad came just in time. My daughter found Mindful Freedom Yoga Studio on the internet and gave me the number. She told me I needed Gentle yoga. I called July of 2012 Jenn told me to try the Thursday night class. My first class, all the tightness was gone in my back. My arthritis did not hurt at night any more, I was able to sleep.
I also have asthma and I noticed I could breathe better. I was looking forward to my lung function test. The doctor told me I had significant improvement. I told the doc I have been taking yoga. He said he was going to tell his other patients to try yoga. I am still in shock doing things I couldn’t do before. Just try yoga!!!!
My teacher is Jenn and she is very patient with me. If I can’t do a position it’s ok. She shows you another way to get the same affect from the pose.
